So you’ve mentally and physically prepared (you have, right?) for your juice cleanse, and are finally ready to start! Just remember that it’s not uncommon for those undergoing detox programs to feel detox symptoms called a “healing crisis” – your body’s way of releasing toxins. As annoying as it may be to experience headaches, fatigue, skin rashes, breakouts, and bloating, these symptoms are simply signs that toxins are being released from your cells more quickly than your body can expel them.
But fear not, this means your juice cleanse is working! Even better news? There are a few quick and easy ways to overcome symptoms of a healing crisis, and get you back on track to a healthier, happier, and more energetic you.
Dry Brush Your Body
Sure your skin may protect you from heat and chemicals, but it’s also the main way in which toxins are released from your body. This is especially important during a juice cleanse.
And think about this: all those soaps and lotions you lather on your skin each day can actually be doing more harm than good. They can clog your pores and make your skin less effective at releasing toxins. The easy fix? Dry brushing — or buffing away dead skin cells to promote skin renewal.
Here’s how: Before hopping in the shower, dry brush your whole body starting from your toes and brush up towards your heart. Once you’ve finished brushing, hop in the shower to rinse off the skin you’ve exfoliated.
Hit the Sauna
Sweating is a great (and relaxing!) way to release toxins from your body and overcome a healing crisis more quickly. Plus, who doesn’t love a fix that also promotes glowing, healthy, acne-free skin?
Set your sauna between 120 to 150 degrees and relax for 30 minutes. Remember, everyone’s body reacts to the heat differently, so make sure to listen to your body. If you feel dizzy or faint, take a break.
Drink Warm Lemon Water
Ditch plain old water and add a squeeze of lemon! For the human body, lemons are one of Mother Nature’s best digestive aids. This powerful citrus helps to flush the body of toxins and supports your liver and kidneys.
Stimulate your lymphatic system’s ability to transport toxins from your organs with some good ol’ fashion exercise. Taking a brisk walk or getting on your yoga mat are some of the best ways to stimulate detoxification and expedite lymphatic drainage.
Enjoy a Hot Epsom Salt Soak
Finally, a very good reason to treat yourself to some rest and relaxation. Magnesium and sulfate-rich epsom salt baths (try this Detox Bath Soak) are the key to relaxing your muscles and flushing toxins from your body quickly.
If you’re looking to enhance your soak and add an air of luxury, pour your favorite essential oils into your soak. Just be sure to hydrate, hydrate, hydrate after!
