Sometimes you need a morning pick-me-up. Our recipe for a thick and creamy plant-based Mint Chocolate smoothie will definitely hit the spot. The best part? You can whip it up in five minutes flat. This Mint Chocolate smoothie features a rich cacao powder and almond milk combo that tastes like a guilty-treat-yo-self chocolate milkshake. But don’t be fooled, this smoothie packs a healthy nutritional punch. Let’s breakdown this smoothie’s three main ingredients: mint, cacao, and spinach.
Did you know that just the smell of mint can help wake you up? That’s why mint in the morning is always a good idea. Mint is known for its ability to suppress bacteria growth (for a clean and fresh feel) and revitalize your system. It’s a natural stimulant and can improve brain function and boost energy levels to keep you energized throughout the day.
Cacao is packed with antioxidants that have the power to destroy cell-damaging free radicals. These antioxidants come from its abundant source of flavonoids. Found in fruits, vegetables, and roots, flavonoids have anti-oxidative, anti-inflammatory, and anti-carcinogenic properties. Benefits include heart health, energy, elevated mood, and improved attention and memory! Cacao is also an excellent source of fiber! Just one tablespoon of cacao (the amount we use in this recipe) satisfies 7% of the recommended daily intake to help you feel satiated before lunchtime.
Spinach is a great source of overall nutrition specifically, protein and iron. Iron helps create hemoglobin that carries oxygen to the body’s tissues. Vitamin K, which is also found in spinach, is essential to help against blood clotting. Just one spinach leaf provides over half of your daily need! Adding a handful of spinach is an easy way to get an extra nutrient dose.

Serves: 1 | Prep time: 5 minutes
- 1 large handful of spinach (about 2 cups)
- 30 fresh mint leaves
- 1 cup unsweetened almond milk (or plant-based milk of choice)
- 1 banana
- 1 tbsp raw cacao powder
- 1 tbsp Project Juice’s Superfood Vanilla blend
- (or favorite plant-based protein powder)
- Add spinach, mint, and almond milk to a blender. Blend on high until smooth to break down the greens.
- Add in banana, cacao, and protein powder. Puree until smooth.
- Pour into a glass and enjoy immediately.
EXPERT TIP: The banana can be fresh or frozen. Frozen banana will provide a thicker end result. Peel your bananas before freezing for easy use. If using a fresh banana, add a handful of ice.
