One of our favorite smoothie hacks is to make a double batch of smoothies…one to enjoy now and one to enjoy later. Making a bigger batch of smoothies is the perfect way to enjoy a meal on-the-go. It is also an eco-friendly way to use leftover or about-to-turn produce – no more food waste!
Contrary to popular belief, a smoothie can be just as delicious stored in the refrigerator, the only catch…it should be enjoyed within 24 hours. We suggest making a double batch of protein power goodness and drinking one pre-workout and the other post-workout.
HOW TO STORE SMOOTHIES FOR LATER:
1. ENJOY QUICKLY
A smoothie stored in the refrigerator will only be good for up to 24 hours. Enjoy your smoothie quickly. If you can’t drink it within 24 hours, store your smoothie in the freezer instead.
2. AVOID OXIDATION
Place your smoothie in a container with an air-tight lid to avoid oxidation. You’ll want to fill your container all the way to the top otherwise air will oxidize the nutrients and it turn it brown.
3. ADD A SQUEEZE OF LEMON
Add a squeeze of lemon to your smoothie. The extra citrus/vitamin C will also help prevent oxidation.
