Ginger Detox Bath Recipe

Jan 02, 2014 @ Project Juice

Whether you’re in the midst of a juice cleanse and seeking to alleviate detox symptoms, getting back on track post-weekend, or simply cultivating a weekly detoxifying ritual, this bath is for you. Add this satisfying detox bath to your “detox recipes” catalog – its a keeper!

We are exposed to a large amount of toxins each day, some relatively within our control and some out of our control. While we can do our best to choose organic food, use organic home + bath + beauty products, filter our water, and so on,  the fact remains we are exposed to toxins regularly through our environment.

Our bodies are naturally talented at eliminating toxins (think sweating, using the bathroom, etc.), but it’s powers aren’t limitless. By incorporating regular self-care regimens like this detox bath, we can help our body metabolize toxic waste more easily, leading to a healthier, happier you.

This detox bath recipe is particularly detoxifying because of the use of epsom salt. Also known as magnesium sulfate, epsom salt helps to flush toxins, ease stress, promote sleep, soothe sore muscles, regulate enzyme activity, improve nutrient absorption, and benefit circulatory health.

You’ll also find in this recipe baking soda, helping neutralize any hard chemicals that may be in your tap water as well as added absorption of minerals. The inclusion of apple cider vinegar is also wonderful for easing body aches and helping your body maintain alkalinity and gut health. Last but not least, ginger warms the body further, helping to sweat out those excess toxins along with being an effective anti-inflammatory and adding a lovely scent!

Ginger Detox bath recipe

This recipe is good for one soak. Combine all ingredients in a warm-hot bath and let sit for 2-3 minutes before climbing in. Enjoy!

  • 1/2 c. epsom salt
  • 1/2 c. baking soda
  • 2 tbs. ground ginger or 2 ginger tea bags
  • 1/2 c. apple cider vinegar

*This recipe may also be doubled for a more intense detox bath, but we suggest starting here and adding as needed. We also encourage dry brushing beforehand for maximum benefit.

Releasing toxins from the body is incredibly important in achieving and maintaining optimum health as most illnesses are caused by a buildup of toxic waste. By taking small steps like eating more organic leafy greens, cutting back on processed sugars, and luxuriating in a ginger-spiced bath once in awhile, you will feel cleaner inside and out!
